Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main comparison that men lead in the youngest group, while women are more active in most other age groups, and you include several accurate figures, such as 52.8% versus 47.7% for ages 15–24. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the overall pattern that men’s rate falls and then rises, while women’s rate generally rises to middle age before declining. The claim of a “huge difference” of around 14% at ages 35–44 is inaccurate; the gap is 13 percentage points, but the wording should be precise, and the actual values (39.5% and 52.5%) are not given there. The final group is described as almost equal, which is accurate. Select and summarise the key trends more clearly, then support them with precise comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression from an introduction to an overview and then comparisons across age groups. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Last but not least” help signal movement through the data. However, the organisation is sometimes mechanical, and several comparisons are crowded into long sentences, particularly the discussion of ages 25–34 and 35–44. Punctuation and spacing also make connections harder to follow, as in “graph, the” and “too.The.” The overview repeats the point about the youngest and oldest groups rather than providing a concise summary of the full pattern. Grouping the first two age bands together and then the remaining bands, with clear topic sentences, would make the progression more coherent and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increased,” and “dropped,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “did exercise” and “did physical activity,” and some choices are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “the percentage of men who did exercise was higher whose age group was 15 to 24” is awkward, while “dropped down” is less suitable than a concise trend verb such as “fell.” There are also spelling errors, including “amd,” and “gender” is not the most natural term when comparing men and women. Aim for more precise collocations and vary your language without sacrificing accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “who,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction appear in phrases such as “the percentage of Australian male and female,” “the proportion of men and women were,” and “It was highest percentage.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “at the age of 25 to 34” and “it reached at 53.3%.” Several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, for example the sentence beginning “Moreover, the percentage of men dropped down.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate comparison structures, article use, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex clauses.
