Student answer (Band 5.5)

This chart illustrates the percentage of men and women in different age groups in Australia who did physical activities on daily basis in 2010.

It can be easily seen that men in their adulthood are highly active till the age of 24 and after that there is dramatic fall. However, women are more involved in physical activites thorugh out their life especially for the age group in between 35 to 64 years and afterwards ratio between men and women is almost equal when they get old.

52.8% men were active in their teenage till the age of 24 and after that there is dramatic fall and reaches to 39.5% when they were in between 35 to 44 but it keep rising and reaches to 46.7% at the age of 65. on the other hand, Women were moderalty active maximum by 48.9% till the age of 34 and then there was a big rise and its keep persistant to 53% around the age of 64 and after that it declines to 47.1

This chart depicts importance of physical activities and how people specially were keenly interested in healthy activities to stay fit and active throughout their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main contrast accurately: men have the highest activity rate in the youngest group, while women exceed men across most middle and older age groups. You also report several key figures correctly, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at 45–54. However, some details are imprecise: the male rate rises to 46.7% in the oldest group, while the female rate falls to 47.1%, so they are close but not quite equal. The claim that women were “moderately active maximum by 48.9% till the age of 34” misrepresents the data, since their rate continues rising to above 53%. The final comment about people’s motivation is not shown by the chart. A more precise overview and fuller reporting of the comparisons would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph describing the male figures and then the female figures. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by repeated points, especially the male decline being stated in both the overview and the detail paragraph. Linking phrases such as “However” and “on the other hand” help signal contrast, but some connections are awkward or unclear, and the final paragraph shifts from describing data to making an unsupported general comment. Grouping the figures into a clearer comparison—for example, men’s and women’s rates by age range—would create a more consistent progression. Use paragraphing to separate the overview from the detailed comparisons, and avoid repeating the same trend.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “dramatic fall,” “rising,” “declines,” and “ratio,” so the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for chart description: “highly active” overstates what the percentages show, “ratio between men and women” is not the right expression for comparing rates, and “keep persistant” does not clearly describe the female trend. There are also spelling errors, including “activites,” “thorugh,” and “moderalty,” which reduce accuracy. The phrase “keenly interested in healthy activities” describes motivation rather than the measured data. Aim for precise terms such as “participation rate,” “percentage,” “peaked,” and “remained relatively stable,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “However” and “on the other hand.” The main trends are usually understandable, but some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate. For example, “after that there is dramatic fall and reaches to 39.5%” shifts tense and leaves the subject of “reaches” unclear; “it keep rising” should use a correctly formed verb; and “women were … and then there was a big rise and its keep persistant” combines clauses without clear grammatical control. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent, as in “on the other hand” and “at the age.” Use past tense consistently for the 2010 data, make each clause’s subject explicit, and punctuate longer sentences carefully.
