The bar chart illustrates the percentage of Austrailian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010.

Among people aged 15 to 24, 52.8% of men participated in regular physical activity, compared with 47.7% of women. In the 25-34 age group, the figure for men dropped to 42.2%, while the percentage for women increased to 48.9%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You report the chart’s main figures accurately, including the male peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds, the female high of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds, and the near-equal rates in the oldest group. However, the overview is brief and contains a factual error: women exceeded men in every group except ages 15–24, not “14 to 24”; the phrase “almost all” also understates this pattern. The response is 147 words, below the 150-word minimum, and 14 words copied from the prompt were not counted. This limits how fully the key trends are summarised. Add a clearer overview of the contrasting age patterns and ensure the response meets the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information is arranged in a clear sequence, moving through the age groups from youngest to oldest, and comparisons are easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “compared with,” “whereas,” “Similarly,” and “Finally” help connect the figures without disrupting the progression. The response also separates the opening from the detailed comparisons and places an overview at the end. However, the overview would work better immediately after the introduction, so readers see the main pattern before the data. The final sentence’s “except for those aged 14 to 24” is also inconsistent with the earlier age label and weakens the clarity of the summary. More deliberate paragraphing and a clearer overview would strengthen the organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “participated in regular physical activity,” “exercised regularly,” and “engaged in regular physical activity.” These variations avoid excessive repetition, while terms such as “figure,” “percentage,” and “age group” are appropriate for describing a chart. Meaning remains clear throughout. Some choices are less precise or natural: “significantly higher” may imply statistical significance, which the chart does not establish, and “physically active” is broader than the chart’s measure of regular activity. There is also a spelling error in “Austrailian.” Aim for precise, consistent wording and check spelling; for example, describe the rates as “higher” and refer to “regular physical activity” when summarising the measure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You show a useful mix of sentence forms, including comparative clauses with “compared with” and “whereas,” as well as a longer sentence beginning “Among people aged 55 to 64.” Most sentences are grammatically controlled, and the figures are presented in clear, complete clauses. Some errors remain: “in almost all age group” needs the plural “groups,” and the final sentence begins with lowercase “overall” after a full stop. The age range “14 to 24” also conflicts with the earlier “15 to 24,” though this is primarily a content inconsistency. To improve further, check plural agreement and sentence-initial capitalisation, and vary the structures used to compare the two sexes while maintaining this generally clear control.
