Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview of the main contrast: men peak in the youngest group, while women are generally more active in the middle age groups. Several figures are accurately reported, including 52.8% for young men and 39.5% for men aged 35–44. However, some key comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. The overview says women’s rate rises to the second-last group, but it actually peaks at 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds before dipping slightly to 53.0%. The claim that both sexes are almost equal in the oldest group is broadly right, but the figures are 46.7% and 47.1%, with women slightly higher. Report the overall pattern more precisely and compare the sexes across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and separate discussion of men and women. This helps the reader follow the two series. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and some abrupt or incomplete phrasing, such as “After that, it grow slightly in numbers from age group 45 to 65 and over 4.1 to 46.7%.” The transition “While in women” does not form a complete sentence, and “At last” is used where “In the oldest group” would be clearer. Some linking phrases are repeated, while comparisons between the male and female figures are not consistently integrated. Organise the details in a clearer sequence and use linking expressions to show contrasts and changes accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “age group,” “gradually,” and “slight difference,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing exercise data. “Physical work” suggests employment rather than physical activity, while “majority involves” does not express a percentage clearly. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Austrailia,” “woment,” “excercise,” and “insignifficant,” which reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe people as “engaging in regular physical activity” and use “participation rate” when referring to the percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Examples include the sentence fragment “While in women the exercise rate…,” the agreement error “it grow slightly,” and the unclear construction “the women in 15 to 24 age group shows.” Punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, as in “Overall, the” and “It is clear that,”. Some sentences combine several figures without a clear grammatical structure, particularly the description of the male trend after age 45. Use complete sentences, check subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and separate comparisons into manageable clauses.
