Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures from all six age groups, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54. The overview also attempts to highlight extremes, which is relevant. However, it is incomplete and grammatically unclear: “the hightest percentage of women age group…” does not clearly state the overall pattern. The main comparison—that women were more active in every group except ages 15–24—is not brought out, and the claim that the 65-and-over figures are similar uses an inaccurate male figure (46.1% rather than 46.7%). Select the key trends and state them clearly in the overview, then support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and body details, and it moves through the age groups so the reader can locate the information. However, progression is limited because the figures are mostly listed one group at a time rather than organised around meaningful comparisons or trends. Linking phrases such as “In addition,” “Regarding,” and “Finally” are used, but “Regarding” is awkwardly placed and “In contrast” does not clearly signal the comparison that follows. The overview is also difficult to interpret, weakening the connection between the main features and supporting details. Group the data by the main pattern—for example, where women exceed men and the exception—and use clear, accurate links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age group,” and “whereas,” and the meaning of most figures can be understood. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling errors reduce precision: “bar chat” is incorrect, “hightest” is misspelled, and “higher percentage” is repeatedly used where a clearer comparison is needed. Phrases such as “women proportion” and “men percentage” are also unnatural. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the proportion of women” and “the figure for men,” and vary reporting language without forcing synonyms. Careful proofreading of spelling and phrasing would make the data description more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including a comparison with “whereas” and a contrast introduced by “In contrast.” Nevertheless, many sentences are incomplete or lack the grammatical links needed to express comparisons clearly. For example, “the age group 15 to 24 higher percentage of men was 52.8%” has no clear subject–verb structure, while “women proportion 48.9% and men 42.2%” is a fragment. The overview sentence also lacks a complete clause. These recurring problems make the response harder to follow, despite the figures often being identifiable. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, prepositions, and punctuation; for example, “Among those aged 25–34, the figure was 48.9% for women and 42.2% for men.”
