Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, including the male and female rates for the youngest and oldest groups. However, the overview is inaccurate: the highest female rate is among 45–54-year-olds, while the highest male rate is among 15–24-year-olds; they are not both highest in the youngest group. The rates for people aged 65 and over are also close, but not equal. Some key patterns are missed or confused: women exceed men in every group except 15–24, and male participation falls to a low at 35–44 before rising. The description of the 35–44 group is omitted, and the sentence beginning “Additionally” does not clearly identify its age group. Select and accurately summarise the main trends before listing details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs, so there is some organisation. However, the progression between ideas is difficult to follow because the figures are not consistently grouped by age or trend. For example, “Additionally, the number goes to 53.3 percent” does not make clear which age group this refers to, and the following sentence repeats some of the same figures. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “For the remaining” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the information. Improve the sequence by describing the youngest groups first, then the middle and oldest groups, and use clear references such as “In the 45–54 group” to connect each figure to its category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” and “declined,” and the reader can generally recognise that the response is about activity rates. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. People are not “accountable for” a percentage of activity; instead, the chart shows the proportion of men and women who exercised regularly. “The number goes to” is also imprecise when describing a percentage, and “the same trend” does not accurately describe the close but different rates in the oldest group. There are spelling errors such as “differerent” and “perecent,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation of “Australian.” Use precise chart language and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of sentence forms, including an overview and sentences with “while” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur in examples such as “people aged 45 to 54 and 55 to 64, looks the same” and “approximately 42.2 and 48.9 perecent was recorded.” The opening phrase “male and female at 15 to 24 were” also has an unclear subject, while “people aged to 25 to 34” contains an unnecessary preposition. These problems make some comparisons harder to understand. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and punctuation. More accurate simple structures would help you communicate the figures before attempting longer sentences.
