Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overall comparison, but the response reports almost none of the data needed to summarise it. The claim that females did more activity overall is too broad: men had the higher figure among 15–24-year-olds, while women were higher in the other five groups. The statement about women aged “25 to 35” being least likely is inaccurate; the chart’s group is 25–34, and women’s lowest rate was among those aged 65 and over. The response also ends mid-sentence (“the less likely to do exe”), leaving a key comparison unfinished. It contains 84 words, below the required 150; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Include an overview and several accurate figures and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening description is followed by overview-style statements, and phrases such as “Overall” and “All in all” signal summary points. However, the progression is weak because the two overview statements largely repeat one another, and there is no paragraph presenting the age-group figures in a logical sequence. The final sentence is incomplete, so the reader cannot follow the intended point. Some punctuation also disrupts flow, as in “age groups. who did” and “activities, However”. To improve, use a clear introduction, one concise overview, and a body paragraph comparing the male and female figures across the age groups.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “bar graph”, “proportion”, “age group” and “regular physical activities”, so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “the proportion of the activities” does not clearly describe the chart’s percentages, while “female did more” and “the male was the less likely” are awkward. Spelling errors such as “regualr”, “acitvity”, “excercise” and “Additionaly” also reduce accuracy. Use precise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe rates as “the percentage who exercised regularly” and compare groups as “women recorded a higher proportion”.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and a subordinate clause, as in “the age group from 25 to 35 womens very less likely…”, but control is inconsistent and the sentence is not grammatically complete. There are problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation in “age groups. who did…” and “activities, However”. Agreement and article use are also weak in “female did” and “the male was the less likely”; the unfinished final sentence provides no complete grammatical structure. These errors make parts of the response difficult to interpret. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “Women were more active than men in five of the six age groups,” and use full stops to separate ideas.
