Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify relevant features, including the male low point in the 35–44 group and the female peak in the 45–54 group, and you attempt comparisons across the age bands. However, the overview is incomplete and one comparison is inaccurate: the sexes were not “balanced” at 25–34 (42.2% for men versus 48.9% for women), and the largest gap is not highlighted. The opening also calls the activity “daily,” which the chart does not specify. Several figures are vague or omitted, such as describing women’s first-group rate as 47% and the final rates as “around 47%.” Select the main overall pattern and support it with accurate figures to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an opening statement to age-group comparisons, and words such as “Initially,” “Secondly,” and “The last age group” help signal progression. However, the organisation does not yet create a clear overall progression: the overview is mixed with details, and the two main body sections are not clearly separated by a consistent organising principle. Some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “In 35 to 44” and “The last age group 65 and above where…”. Group the information into a concise overview followed by comparisons, and use clear sentence links to show how the figures change across age groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “physical activity,” “age group,” “peak,” and “slightly,” so the reader can generally identify the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “physical activity … was made,” “mens were create minor activity perchantage,” and “balanced exercise” do not express the data naturally. Spelling errors such as “perchantage” and “womens” are also noticeable. Build a more precise set of chart verbs and comparison phrases, for example “accounted for,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “was higher than.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine information in longer sentences, for example when comparing the two sexes in the 45–54 and 55–64 groups. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “men was lowest activity made” and “mens were create”; sentence fragments or incomplete constructions occur in “In 35 to 44 mens…” and “The last age group 65 and above where…”. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Initially, the” and “Secondly, The”. Use complete subject–verb sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and separate comparisons into shorter, correctly punctuated sentences.
