Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart topic and give a broad overview that women were more active in most age groups, while men led among 15–24-year-olds. You also accurately report the youngest-group figures and identify men’s lowest result at ages 35–44. However, the overview is incomplete: women’s peak was at 45–54, and the figures for those aged 65 and over were close, but these points are only briefly mentioned. The claim that women were “least active” at 65 and over is not quite accurate, as their lowest figure was 47.7% among 15–24-year-olds. The response contains 134 words, below the 150-word minimum, with 11 prompt words excluded. Add key comparisons and more supporting figures to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing male and female results. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal the purpose of sections. However, the progression is limited because the final paragraph gives only two brief observations and does not develop the comparison between the sexes across the age groups. Some connections are unclear, particularly “This was the age group with that had the highest values for men,” where the relationship between the clauses is awkward. The contrast introduced by “On the other hand” is also not fully explained with figures. Organise the body around clear comparisons and use linking language to show how the trends change with age.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “comparative percentages,” “accounted for,” “highest values,” and “lowest values,” so the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and word-form errors reduce precision: “physical activitie,” “actitivities,” “vaules,” and “th youngest” are noticeable. “The chat given” is also an inaccurate way to introduce a chart, while “were more active in physical activities than women” is repetitive and unclear. Aim for accurate, concise reporting language such as “participation rate,” “activity levels,” and “the proportion of men.” Proofread carefully and choose collocations that describe percentages and trends naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex structures, including “Overall, women were generally more active … with the exception of the youngest age group,” and the response is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Between the ages of 15-24 year, there were more active” lacks a clear subject and has an incorrect age expression; “which was was 35-44” contains repetition and an incomplete construction. The sentence beginning “While those between 65 and above” is also a fragment. There are problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences and check agreement and clause structure, especially when combining comparisons.
