Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You identify the chart’s subject and provide a clear overview: men have the highest participation in the youngest group, while women lead in most older groups. The figures you report are generally accurate, and you cover the main changes, including the male decline to 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the later recovery. This gives the response a well-supported account of the key pattern. However, the overview’s phrase “women mostly preferred exercise after the age of 25” is broader than the data: women also lead at 25–34, but the male figure is higher at 15–24, and the gap narrows in the oldest group. Also, “started physical activity” and “exercise daily” imply changes or frequency not shown by the chart. Describe participation rates more neutrally and precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is arranged in a clear sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by comparisons across the age groups, moving from younger to older participants. This progression makes the data easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Subsequently,” and “Thereafter” help signal development. The paragraphing is also appropriate. To make cohesion more flexible and less mechanical, avoid repeatedly beginning comparisons with age labels or relying on “while,” “on the other hand,” and “in addition” to connect figures. Some links do not express the relationship precisely—for example, “in addition” introduces a contrast between the sexes. Group related comparisons into smoother sentences and use clear references such as “this figure” where the meaning is unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing the chart, including “percentage,” “age bracket,” “decline,” “increased,” and “minor decrease.” These choices help communicate the main trends, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for an academic data summary: “habit to do routine exercise,” “ladies crossed the men,” and “showed their interest in exercise.” “Preferred” and “started physical activity” also suggest preference or initiation rather than simply reporting participation. Some word forms and collocations, such as “as compare to,” further limit naturalness. Aim for neutral, precise terms such as “participation rate,” “exceeded,” and “the proportion of women who exercised.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons joined with “while” and “whereas,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “The age group from 15 to 24, 52.8% men do regular exercise” lacks a complete grammatical frame; write “Among those aged 15 to 24, 52.8% of men exercised regularly.” In “women's at the same age accounted at 47.7%,” the possessive form and verb pattern are incorrect. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent in “women exercise daily” and “men perform exercise.” Use past-tense reporting consistently, check articles and prepositions, and make sure each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
