Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall pattern: women recorded higher activity rates in every age group except 15–24, and you note the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and female peak of 53.3% at 45–54. These are relevant features and show that you have understood the chart. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: the near-equal rates are for the oldest group, 46.7% for men and 47.1% for women, rather than a one-percentage-point difference. The female rate at 15–24 is 47.7%, not 46.7%, and the male figures for ages 25–34 and 35–44 are not described accurately when you say they stood at 46.7 in older men. More precise reporting across the age groups would make the summary fuller and clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of male and female figures. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and phrases such as “while” and “then” help signal comparisons and sequence. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the male paragraph moves from the youngest group to the middle-age low, then lists several groups before giving a figure for older men, without consistently matching each figure to its age group. The overview’s “through the period” is also not a natural way to refer to age categories. Organise each series in a clear age sequence and use explicit comparisons or linking phrases to show how the rates change.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “percentage,” “age groups,” “peak,” and “fluctuations,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “average proption,” “physical exercies,” “ration physical activities,” and “elder aged men”; these are not natural or precise descriptions of the chart. “Athletes” is also unsuitable because the chart concerns people doing regular physical activity, not athletes. Aim for a smaller set of accurate expressions, such as “the proportion who exercised regularly” and “the oldest age group,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including comparisons with “while” and a sequence introduced by “then.” The main ideas can usually be understood, but some grammatical errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and prepositions. For instance, “exercise ratio in female higher” needs a verb and a plural or possessive form, while “between 15, to 24 years” uses an incorrect preposition and punctuation. In “habits … were reached to peak,” the verb pattern is faulty; a clearer structure would be “the male rate reached a peak.” The final sentence also lacks a clear grammatical link between the age groups and the figures. Practise accurate comparative sentences and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb.
