Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and provide an overview that women generally recorded higher activity after age 25, while men led among 15–24-year-olds. However, the overview is imprecise: men were not simply able to exercise in that age group; they had the higher percentage there. Several comparisons are incomplete or inaccurate. For ages 35–44, the figures are 39.5% for men and 52.5% for women, but you only mention a “high discrepancy.” For ages 55–64, the figures are 45.1% and 53%, not equal; at 65 and over they are 46.7% and 47.1%, which are close but not equal. Select and report key figures accurately to make the main trends clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of details. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Probing ahead” attempt to guide progression. However, the comparisons do not consistently follow a clear sequence, and some linking language is inaccurate or distracting. The final paragraph first gives the 45–54 figures, then describes older groups as equal before repeating the 65-and-over comparison. The reference to “equal proportion” is also unclear because the figures are not equal. Group the age ranges in a logical order and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “In the oldest group” to make relationships between figures explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of terms related to the topic, including “proportion,” “involved in activities,” and “recreational activities,” and the general subject remains understandable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart. “Ratio” is not the best term for percentages, “became health conscious” adds an unsupported interpretation, and “masses” is unsuitable for people in an age group. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “excercise” and “discrepency,” and some repeated wording around physical and recreational activity. Prefer precise, neutral chart language and check spelling; this will make your comparisons easier to understand and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and an overview clause beginning “whereas.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “were became health conscious” combines incompatible verb forms, and “men could be perform” has an incorrect modal construction. In “the ratio … were 52.8% are men,” the sentence has faulty agreement and an unclear clause structure. Other examples include “age group … was doing” and “elder male and female performed,” where number and phrasing are not controlled. Build accurate simple comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
