Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad comparison that women were more active overall and note that the sexes were at similar levels among people aged 65 and over. However, the account only partially reports the chart’s main features, and several statements misread the data. Men were highest at ages 15–24 (52.8%), then fell to a low of 39.5% at 35–44 before rising; women rose to a peak of 53.3% at 45–54. The claim that women’s lowest participation was 39.5% is incorrect: that figure belongs to men, while women’s lowest is 47.7%. The overview is also unclear, and the age ranges are sometimes inaccurate. Select the key highs, lows and contrasting trends, and check each figure against its series.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an overall shape, moving from an introduction and overview to details about men and women, and paragraph breaks help separate some points. However, progression is not consistently clear: the discussion shifts between trends and comparisons without a well-organised sequence, and the final paragraph repeats a comparison while confusing which sex has the highest and lowest values. Linking words such as “Overall,” “According to the figures,” and “Additionally” show an attempt to connect ideas, but some are used mechanically or do not clarify the relationship. For example, “However” introduces a point that does not clearly contrast with the preceding one. Organise the body by describing the male trend first and the female trend second, then use accurate comparisons to connect them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “participants,” “consistency,” and “percentage,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward or unclear. Phrases such as “different ages gap,” “taking more part,” and “main participants” are not natural ways to describe chart data. “The graph percentage” is also imprecise; refer instead to the participation rate or percentage. Repetition of “activity,” “graph,” and “percentage” further limits flexibility. Build a small set of accurate expressions for describing rates, peaks, lows and changes, and use them consistently rather than relying on general phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to form longer sentences and use subordinate clauses, but the range remains limited and complex constructions are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “figures were go down” and “the graph percentage … were increased.” Sentence boundaries and spacing are also inconsistent: “age groups.Women” and “men. However” need spaces, while several sentences would benefit from clearer punctuation. Other patterns, including “men who are between 15 to 24 age” and “the lowest females participants,” show problems with articles, number and sentence construction. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple past descriptions and build longer sentences only when the clauses are grammatically controlled.
