Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the chart topic and attempts an overview, noting that young men had a higher rate than young women. However, the overview is inaccurate: male participation did not show a general downward trend, since it fell to 35–44 and then rose, while female participation rose to 45–54 before declining. The claim that older men and women were equally active is also not supported; their figures were close but different. The report ends mid-sentence after “significant rise,” so it omits most key comparisons and the later age-group data. It contains 84 words, below the required 150, with 13 prompt words excluded from the count. These omissions and misreadings leave the task only minimally addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph, and phrases such as “Overall,” “Similarly,” and “In detail” signal the intended structure. This gives the reader some sense of the report’s direction. However, the progression is not completed because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, and the overview’s claims do not lead into a clear, systematic comparison of the age groups. The linking words are also used to connect ideas that are not fully accurate or clearly related. To improve, complete each paragraph and organise the figures by trend or by age group, using comparisons that directly support the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “rate,” “downward trend,” and “significant rise,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are unnatural, such as “male teenager,” “olders,” and “equally physical activity.” The phrase “who did doing regular physical activity” also shows difficulty expressing the chart’s subject naturally. These noticeable problems sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a small set of accurate terms for describing participation and comparisons, and use natural collocations such as “the proportion of women who exercised” or “men were more active than women.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a few different sentence forms, including a complex opening with “who” and a contrast introduced by “while.” Some basic sentence meanings can be understood, but errors are frequent and the range remains limited. Examples include “who did doing,” “it can been that,” and “male age group experienced,” where verb forms or sentence construction are faulty. The overview also shifts between singular group labels and plural meanings, as in “female age group showed on upward trend.” The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “age gro,” which prevents the idea from being expressed. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentences before adding more complex structures.
