Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the chart’s subject and makes a relevant attempt to compare men and women, including the male lead among 15–24-year-olds and the near-equal figures for those aged 65 and over. However, coverage is very limited: it omits the important pattern that women exceed men in every age group except the youngest, and it gives no account of the female peak around ages 45–64 or the male low at 35–44. Some details are inaccurate: the 15–24 female figure is 47.7%, not 47.4%, and the claim that women are higher overall is not supported by a stated overall comparison. The response is also five words below the required minimum. Report the main trends across all age groups and check figures against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the sequence is generally understandable. Linking words such as “Overall,” “However” and “In same period” help signal relationships. However, the progression is incomplete because the detail paragraphs cover only a few age groups and do not systematically compare the six categories. The repeated focus on daily exercise also makes the information feel less organised, while “In same period” does not clearly connect to the preceding point. Build the body paragraphs around a clear comparison—for example, the youngest group versus the remaining groups—and use accurate references so readers can follow which age group each figure describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentages,” “age group,” “engagement” and “compared with,” so the topic is usually recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “participate on physical activities,” “highly prefered to do exercise” and “completely dominated girls.” Repetition of “numbers” and “doing exercise” also limits precision. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “infromation,” “regulary,” “phsycial” and “percenatge,” which reduce the clarity and polish of the report. Use neutral, data-focused expressions such as “the proportion who exercised” and “was higher than,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a relative clause in the opening. Nevertheless, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “The bar chart provides information … Who regularly participate” is incorrectly divided into a fragment, while “The numbers of female did physical activities” has faulty subject and verb construction. There are also problems with agreement and tense in “the numbers … was higher,” and the final sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure for expressing the difference. Practise complete sentences, accurate subject–verb agreement and consistent past-tense reporting; use simple, controlled comparisons before attempting longer structures.
