Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report figures for all six age groups, and most of the values you give match the chart, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54. However, the response mainly lists data rather than summarising the main features. It needs a clear overview, such as noting that men were more active only in the youngest group, while women led in every other group, and that male activity fell before rising again. The final figure is also unclear: “47. 1” should be identified as the female rate for those aged 65 and over. These omissions and the limited interpretation leave the task only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The age groups are presented in chart order, which gives the reader a basic sequence, and linking words such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” show attempts to connect points. However, the response has no clear introduction or overview and reads as a series of separate, repetitive statements rather than a developed summary. Several transitions are used mechanically, while the final sentence is difficult to follow because the two figures are not clearly assigned to men and women. Grouping the data into paragraphs—for example, the youngest group and the remaining groups—and using a concise overview would create clearer progression. More precise referencing and fewer repeated openings such as “People of the age…” would also improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses relevant basic terms, including “ratio,” “age,” “men,” “women,” and “physical activity,” so the general subject is understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart. “Exercise ratio” and “performance of physical activity ratio” are not suitable collocations; “proportion who exercised” or “participation rate” would be clearer. “Daily” is also not supported by the task, which describes regular activity. Spelling errors such as “excercise” and “there” where “their” is intended further reduce accuracy. A more varied set of chart-description terms, used consistently and precisely, would make the report easier to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences attempt to communicate one age group and its two figures, but the grammatical range is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “People of the age 15 to 24 years in 2010 the exercise ratio…” lacks a clear sentence structure, while “the ratio of female is high than man” has problems with articles, comparison form, and number. The final phrase, “exercise ratio46.7 and over its 47.1,” is also incomplete and leaves the relationship between the figures unclear. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, and many clauses rely on the same simple pattern. Practise writing complete comparative sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, such as “Women’s rate was higher than men’s in five age groups.”
