Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart compares the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in the year 2010.

Overall in most age groups women did more exercise than men ad although there portion faced rice and fall but they are ahead of men in most of the parts of their lives.

Intially the 47.7% of women between age 15 to 24 has did daily exercise amd they are relatively almost 5% behind the men of same age who committed most to the daily workout. However these statistics continued to rise in the upcoming older women groups. With 53.3% ,the women of between 45 to 54 have did exercise regularly and that is the highest contribution in the sector of women.

The men who did least attention to the physical exercise were of the age between 35 to 44 and among women groups they were of the age pver 65.

Although both sectors faced many ups and downs but in the age of 65 they did exercise with almost equal number of participation and the difference here is less than 1%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overall comparison: women recorded higher activity in most age groups, while men led among 15–24-year-olds. You also correctly identify the female peak at 45–54 (53.3%), the male low at 35–44 (39.5%), and the near-equal figures for people aged 65 and over. However, the account is only partly developed and includes a significant trend error: women’s figures do not rise continuously in older groups, since they fall slightly from 53.3% to 53.0% and then to 47.1%. The claim that women were “almost 5% behind” young men is also imprecise; the gap is 5.1 percentage points. Cover the full pattern more accurately, including the men’s recovery after their low point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an introduction and overview to age-specific details, and words such as “Overall,” “Initially,” and “Although” signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview’s “portion faced rice and fall” is difficult to interpret, and the paragraph about the least active groups interrupts the age-by-age account without a clear link. Some connections are also awkward or repetitive, particularly “Although both sectors faced many ups and downs but…”. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, younger groups first, then middle and older groups—and use accurate linking phrases to show contrast and change.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “percentage,” “age groups,” “regularly,” “highest,” and “difference.” This gives the reader a general sense of the subject. However, the range is limited, and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make the meaning harder to follow: “did more exercise,” “committed most to the daily workout,” and “highest contribution in the sector of women.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “Intially,” “amd,” and “pver.” Choose precise chart language and collocations, such as “the proportion who exercised,” “recorded the highest rate,” and “the figures fluctuated.” Proofreading spelling would also improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a relative clause in “men who did least attention…”. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to understand. Examples include “women between age 15 to 24 has did,” “women of between 45 to 54 have did,” and “although both sectors faced… but,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms, and clause construction. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “the 47.7%” and the run-on transition after “workout.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before combining ideas with subordinate clauses.
