Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several accurate figures, such as 52.8% for men aged 15–24 and 53.3% for women aged 45–54. You also recognise that women lead in several middle-age groups. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate claims: the older groups did not remain stable, and women were not more active in every age group. Men had the higher rate among 15–24-year-olds, while the female rate peaked at 45–54 and then declined. Some comparisons are also incomplete; for example, the female figures for the two youngest groups are not reported. Focus the overview on the contrasting male and female patterns, then select the key highs, lows and crossovers accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for men and women, so there is some organisation and the reader can identify the broad topic of each section. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow. The male paragraph moves from the youngest group to the oldest and then back to several younger groups without a clear organising principle. Linking phrases such as “In one hand,” “Subsequently” and “In contrast” are sometimes inaccurate or do not show the relationship between the figures. The final sentence, “In contrast, about,” is unfinished, which leaves the response without a complete ending. Group the data in a consistent order and use comparisons to connect related figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “percentage,” “accounted for,” “peak” and “moderate level,” and the chart’s general subject remains understandable. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing data. “The number” should refer to a count, whereas the chart gives percentages; “young males holds the large proportion” is unclear; and “more encouraged” does not accurately describe participation rates. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form problems, including “Thoughout,” “oldage” and “activites.” Repeated references to “interest” suggest motivation, which the chart does not measure. Prefer neutral reporting language such as “the proportion who exercised” and “the rate was higher,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “though,” but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement errors occur in “young males holds” and “they holds,” while “men and women both at their oldage remained stable” has an unclear structure and tense relationship. Several sentences contain faulty or incomplete constructions, such as “In comparison, 55 to 64 and 35 to 44 ages of women have similar interest,” and the final “In contrast, about” is unfinished. Punctuation also disrupts readability, particularly in “53.3%.In. comparison.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check agreement and articles, and punctuate sentence boundaries carefully.
