Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and make an attempt at an overview, noting that women aged 45–54 had a high level of activity and that the sexes were close in the oldest group. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not explain the main contrast that women exceeded men in every age group except 15–24, or that men’s rate fell and then rose. There is also a major factual error: men aged 15–24 recorded 52.8%, not 58.8%. Most of the detail reports male figures only, leaving the female pattern largely unreported. The response is also three words below the required minimum. Include accurate comparisons for both sexes and a fuller overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a detail paragraph, so the reader can recognise the intended stages of a chart summary. Some sequencing is also present in phrases such as “followed by” and “Looking at the details.” However, progression is limited because the detail paragraph covers only men and does not move through the age groups in a consistently clear way. The overview’s statements are difficult to follow, and the abrupt punctuation in “activity.while” interrupts the flow. Organise the body around clear comparisons—such as the younger group and the remaining groups—and use linking phrases accurately to show how the figures relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “age group” and “followed by,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Showed greatest interest” suggests motivation rather than the measured participation rate, while “the graph for … age group” is not a natural way to describe data. Spelling errors such as “activitiy,” “grop” and “higerer” also reduce accuracy. Choose precise reporting language, for example “the highest proportion participated” or “the rate stood at,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer sentence forms, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the sentence comparing the oldest age group. Most sentences, however, follow a simple pattern, and errors in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and punctuation are frequent enough to make parts awkward to read. For example, “45 to 54 age group of women showed” needs an article or a clearer plural construction, and “the portion were lowest” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “Overall” also runs into “while” without appropriate punctuation. Practise accurate comparisons using structures such as “Women aged 45–54 had the highest rate, at 53.3%,” and proofread each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
