Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the male peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and the female peak of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. You also note the female rise and subsequent decline. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the main comparison: men are more active only in the youngest group, while women lead in every other age group. Some details are incomplete, and the response ends without comparing the remaining age groups. The response contains 139 words, below the required 150; the 12 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Add a concise overview and report the key trends across all age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs of details. This gives the information some organisation, and words such as “Overall” and “However” signal transitions. However, progression is limited: the overview mainly restates that the chart covers two genders and age groups, while the detail paragraphs do not follow a clear, consistent comparison. “From, the bar graph” and “Although” introduce ideas awkwardly, and the final paragraph repeats the lowest figures rather than developing the comparison. Improve cohesion by grouping the data logically—for example, first summarise the overall gender pattern, then compare the age-group figures—and use linking expressions accurately and sparingly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the basic subject, including “percentage,” “age group,” “males,” “females,” and “physical activity.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “who are into regular physical activity” and “the least category of females.” Some word forms and spellings are inaccurate, including “activites” and “precentage,” which reduce clarity and control. Prefer concise, chart-appropriate expressions such as “the proportion of men who exercised regularly” and “the lowest figure for women.” Avoid repeating “the bar graph” and “percentage” when a more precise noun or pronoun can refer back to the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “Although” and a trend description using “and then.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “The bar chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Overall, the bar graphs shows” contains both punctuation and agreement problems. Several sentences are fragments or lack clear structure, such as “Although the age group of females exceeds to 53.3 percentage of the age group of 45-54.” Commas are often misplaced or missing after introductory phrases. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular/plural agreement, and punctuate clauses carefully.
