Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart illustrate the regular physical activities done by two diffrent groups wich is australian men and woman in 2010

Overall the womans from cevirale ages dominats and they do more activities, specialy from the ages 25to64 and it accounterd the same percentage bettwen men and woman in the ages from 65 and over.

To begin with the percentage of men was more then woman in the age from 15 to 24 but the woman recoverd fast from the ages 25 to 64 and thats goes to the fact that womans had more activities doing then men by more then 10 percente in this ages, and in the ages from 65 and over the percentage bettwen men and woman is almost the same compared to the previous years

In final we can say that woman do more physical activities then men and that more what this bar chat shows

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall pattern: women recorded higher activity rates across most age groups, while men led among 15–24-year-olds. You also note that the figures for people aged 65 and over were close. These are relevant comparisons and give the response a clear overview. However, some details are inaccurate or too broad: the gap between women and men from 25 to 64 was not more than 10 percentage points in every group, and the rates for those aged 65 and over were similar, not the same. The claim that women “dominate” across all ages also conflicts with the first group. To strengthen the report, include a few precise figures and describe the male trend, which falls to 35–44 before rising in older groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to supporting comparisons, with a brief concluding statement. This makes the main message accessible. The progression is not always smooth, however: the third paragraph combines several age groups and claims in one long sentence, while the final paragraph repeats the overview rather than adding a useful comparison. Linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “In final” are used mechanically, and references such as “this ages” and “the previous years” are unclear or do not fit the chart. Organise the body around the contrasting age patterns, and use clear references and transitions to show how each comparison relates to the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “physical activities,” “age,” and “compared,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the report less precise. For example, “the womans … dominats” and “woman recoverd fast” are not natural ways to describe the chart’s trends; “the rate for women rose” would be clearer. There are also repeated forms such as “more activities” and “do more physical activities,” where “higher participation rate” or “were more physically active” would be more appropriate. Aim to use accurate chart language consistently and check spelling, especially in key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast between men and women and a clause beginning “that goes to the fact.” This shows some variety, but control is uneven. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The bar chart illustrate” and “the percentage … is,” while articles, plurals, and sentence construction are also problematic in phrases such as “the womans from cevirale ages” and “the percentage bettwen men and woman.” The long sentence beginning “To begin with” joins several ideas without clear punctuation, making the relationships harder to follow. Use shorter, complete sentences for each comparison, check singular and plural agreement, and practise accurate comparative structures such as “women’s rate was higher than men’s.”
