Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart provides information on the daily physical exercise in different age groups based on gender in Australia in 2010 where units are measured in percentage.
Overall, the highest percentage of regular physical activity was observed for female within 45 to 54 years old whereas the lowest percentage of regular physical activity was observed for male in a age group of 35 to 44.
The young generation of male, within 15 to 24, showed the highest percentage(52.8%)among all the mentioned age group, dropped to 39.5% in the age group of 35 to 44 before surged to 46.7% in the men who were 65 and over.
47.7% female teenagers did regular exercise within 15 to 24, dropped to 48.9% in age group of 25 to 34,further peaked at 53.3% belong to group of 45 to 54,continued same percentage in the following age group before fell to 47.1% where women were over 65.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the chart’s subject and provide a clear overview of two important extremes: women aged 45–54 have the highest rate, while men aged 35–44 have the lowest. You also report several accurate figures and describe the broad male pattern of falling and then rising. However, some comparisons are incomplete or inaccurate: women’s rate does not “continue same percentage” after 45–54, as it slips slightly from 53.3% to 53.0%, and the male figures are not compared directly with the female figures across age groups. The overview could also capture the main contrast that women exceed men in every group except 15–24. More precise coverage of these patterns would make the summary more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the male and female data. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and the age-group sequence is mostly maintained. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly in the repeated use of “dropped,” “before,” and “whereas.” The final two sentences also pack several changes into long sequences, making the relationships between figures less clear. For example, the female trend is presented as “dropped to 48.9%” even though it rises from 47.7%, which disrupts the progression. Use clearer sentence boundaries and linking expressions, and organise the data around comparisons between genders as well as trends over time.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “regular physical activity,” “peaked,” and “surged,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary descriptions of change. However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “daily physical exercise” is not quite the same as the chart’s regular activity, “young generation” is imprecise, and “continued same percentage” does not accurately describe the small decline. “Belong to group” is also an unsuitable phrase for describing an age category. Greater precision in trend language and more natural collocations would improve the report. Aim to use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained broadly stable” only when they match the figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including an overview clause and longer sentences describing changes, and the main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. In “female within 45 to 54 years old,” the age-group phrase is not formed correctly; “women aged 45–54” is a clearer structure. Articles and agreement are also problematic in “a age group” and “the highest percentage … was observed for female.” Several long sentences lack appropriate punctuation, such as the final sentence, where clauses run together after commas. There is also a faulty construction in “peaked at 53.3% belong to group.” Use shorter, controlled sentences and check articles, plural forms, and clause boundaries.
