Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report the figures for all six age groups, and the values given match the chart. However, the response mainly lists data rather than summarising the main features, which is why the task is only partially addressed. There is no clear overview of the key pattern: men have the higher participation rate only among 15–24-year-olds, while women lead in every older group. The contrasting trends are also important: the male rate falls to 39.5% at ages 35–44 before rising, whereas the female rate peaks at 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. Add a concise overview and select these comparisons to make the report more analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The information is presented in a generally understandable order, moving through the age groups from youngest to oldest, and the figures are usually paired by gender. However, the response has no paragraphing or clear progression from an introduction to an overview and then supporting details. The first two sentences repeat the same introductory idea, while the remaining information forms one long sequence of similar statements. This makes the report feel like a list rather than a connected summary. Grouping the data into paragraphs and using contrastive links such as “whereas” or “by contrast” would clarify the comparisons and create a stronger overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart topic and report the figures, using terms such as “percentage,” “age group,” and “regularly.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. “Physical work daily” does not accurately describe regular physical activity, and “excercise” is misspelled. The repeated phrase “there are” also limits the variety of reporting language. Use more precise chart vocabulary and verbs such as “the proportion,” “participation rate,” “stood at,” and “rose” or “fell” to describe the data. This would make the report more concise and help distinguish trends from individual figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response communicates the figures using mostly simple sentence patterns, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. There are attempts at longer structures, but some are not well controlled. For example, “From age of 25 to 34 there are 42.2% male and 48.9% female are doing…” combines two sentence patterns, producing an ungrammatical construction. Similarly, “there are 43.1% men and 53.3% women are doing…” has the same problem. Articles and phrasing are also awkward in “during year 2010.” Practise using a clear subject and verb, for example, “The figures for men and women were 42.2% and 48.9%, respectively,” and vary sentence structures carefully.
