Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overall comparison, noting that women were more active in most age groups. However, the overview is inaccurate: men had the higher figure among 15–24-year-olds, while women exceeded men in every other group, including those aged 65 and over. The response gives no figures or specific age-group comparisons, so it does not adequately summarise the main features. It also contains only 43 words, well below the required 150, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To improve, provide a clear, accurate overview and support it with selected figures, including the male low point at ages 35–44 and the female peak at 45–54.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic, understandable sequence: it introduces the chart and then gives an overall statement. The two sentences are relevant to one another, and the opening “Overall” signals a shift to the summary. However, there is no further organisation or progression because the response stops before presenting details. The comparison in the overview is also too broad to guide a fuller account. Develop the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing age groups; use clear links such as “whereas” and “by contrast” to show how the figures relate. This would build on the simple structure already present.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some appropriate task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “regular,” and “physical training,” and the chart’s subject is generally clear. However, the range is very limited, with no language for describing changes, peaks, lows, or numerical comparisons. There are also inaccurate or unnatural choices: “with different ages” is not a natural way to describe the groups, and “physical training” is less suitable here than “physical activity.” “Excercise” is misspelled, and “in year 2010” is awkward. Use precise terms such as “age groups,” “participation rate,” “higher than,” and “peaked at” to report the data more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response contains two complete sentences, and the basic meaning is understandable. The first sentence uses a relative clause (“who performed…”), while the second attempts an overview with “Overall,” showing some sentence variety. However, the structures remain limited, and there are errors in articles, agreement, and punctuation. In “in year 2010,” the article is missing; in “Overall, It,” the pronoun should not be capitalised after a comma. The phrase “women did most … compared to men” also creates an unclear comparison in the sentence. Practise accurate comparative structures, for example, “Women recorded higher participation rates than men in five of the six age groups,” and check articles and sentence punctuation.
