Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall contrast: men have the higher figure only among 15–24-year-olds, while women lead in the other age groups. You also report several figures accurately, including 52.8% versus 47.7% for the youngest group and 42.2% versus 48.9% for ages 25–34. However, some important details are unclear or inaccurate: women’s figures are not all around 53%, since the youngest and oldest groups are below 48%, and the 65-and-over figures are 46.7% for men and 47.1% for women, not simply an average of 47%. The overview is relevant, but the account of the middle and older groups needs more precise comparisons and a clearer summary of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening overview followed by details about the younger, middle and older age groups. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover” help signal the movement between points, and the main comparison is generally easy to follow. This clear arrangement supports the reader, though some connections are mechanical or awkward, particularly the sentence beginning “Furthermore” followed by a separate “While” clause. The final paragraph also combines several age groups without clearly distinguishing their figures. To make the progression more controlled, group the data into meaningful comparisons and use linking phrases that show the exact relationship between them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “age groups,” “involved in physical activities,” “higher” and “least involved.” This gives you a workable range for the task, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “teenagers mens,” “women were dominating,” “women ratio,” and “same percent average.” Spelling errors, including “activites,” “involove” and “Howerver,” also reduce the accuracy and polish of the report. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully: for example, use “participation rate” or “proportion” rather than “ratio,” and “women had higher rates” rather than “women were dominating.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the contrast in “while in all other age groups women were dominating” and the comparison introduced by “while women ratio was higher.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. Examples include “only teenagers mens were more involved,” where the noun phrase and agreement are faulty, and “the age group of 25 to 34 mens were taking part,” where the subject does not agree with the verb. The sentence “While females of 35 to 44, 45 to 54 and 55 to 65 were at the same percent average” is also incomplete as a standalone sentence. Practise forming clear subjects and complete clauses, and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
