Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview of the main extremes: men’s participation is highest among 15–24-year-olds and lowest among 35–44-year-olds, while women peak at 45–54 and are lowest among those aged 65 and over. You also include several relevant figures. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the male figure for the oldest group is 46.7%, not 46.1%, and the statement that women’s figures for ages 35–44 and 55–64 are “similar” does not explain the comparison. The overview also misses the key overall pattern that women exceed men in every age group except 15–24. Select and compare the main trends more explicitly, and check each reported value against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for male and female data. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal relationships, although some are used mechanically or do not express the relationship clearly. For example, “However” introduces the older male groups without a clear contrast, and “The remaining data of female age group” is an awkward transition. The final sentence also combines two age groups without explaining their relationship. Use clearer topic sentences and organise comparisons around the main trends, while ensuring each linking phrase accurately reflects the connection between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “engaged,” and “regular physical activity,” so the topic is generally clear. There is some attempt to vary wording, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the given bar,” “highest number” for a percentage, and “become fall down.” Spelling errors in “Ausrtralian” and “catagories” also reduce accuracy. The phrase “engaging activities” is not a natural way to describe participation in physical activity. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe figures as “the proportion who exercised regularly” and use “rose,” “fell,” or “declined” to report changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses such as “whereas 35 to 44 has the lowest” and a relative clause in “which at 47.1%.” The intended meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “male of 15 to 24 aged has,” “52.8% male doing,” and “this percentage become fall down,” where sentence structure, verb forms, and agreement are not controlled. Articles and prepositions are also sometimes missing or misplaced, as in “at the 35 to 44 age group.” Build accurate basic comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. For instance: “The figure for men fell to 39.5% among those aged 35–44.”
