Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include a clear overall comparison: men are more active in the youngest group, women lead across most middle-age groups, and the figures are close among those aged 65 and over. Several figures are reported accurately, including the male fall from 52.8% to 39.5% and the female peak of 53.3%. This covers the main features, though some are less fully described: the overview’s claim that the youngest group shows more activity is unclear about which gender, and the female rise from 47.7% to 53.3% is not explained. Also, the male decline is specifically from ages 15–44, followed by a rise through 65 and over. A more precise overview and fuller comparison of the trends would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of men and women, then a final comparison. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement, and phrases such as “Overall” and “The data shows” help signal the purpose of sections. However, progression is sometimes weakened by abrupt or incomplete statements, particularly “The trend in the middle age becomes low in male” and “at 65 and above they show similar involvement,” where the reference is not immediately clear. The final sentence repeats a comparison already mentioned in the overview. Grouping the key trends more deliberately and using clearer links between age groups would make cohesion less mechanical and the progression more consistent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use enough vocabulary to describe the chart, including “percentage,” “decline,” “rose,” “steady decline,” and “nearly equal.” These choices communicate the main trends, and the range is adequate for this task. Some expressions, however, are imprecise or unnatural: “constantly did physical activities” does not accurately convey regular activity, while “the number rose” is less suitable when describing percentages. “The youngest among the group shows more physical activities” is also vague, and “very active” does not clearly distinguish a high percentage from an activity level. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “participated in regular physical activity” and “the proportion increased.” This would improve clarity and control without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and more developed structures, including “Young men between age 15 and 44 shows a decline … from 52.8 to 39.5” and “A steady decline … can be observed.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “Young men … shows” and “the physical involvement … are” should use “show” and “is.” There are also problems with articles and number, as in “Australian male and female” and “the middle aged women shows.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, especially the full stop before the lowercase “at 65 and above” and the missing punctuation around several percentage statements. More consistently accurate agreement and sentence control would improve the report.
