Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart topic and include several relevant figures, including the male peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and the female peak of 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: women were not more active in every age group, and the youngest group is the exception. The claim that activity was “stable” among people aged 65 and over is not supported, and the final comparison incorrectly calls 46.7% the male low; the lowest male figure is 39.5% at ages 35–44. Some age groups and comparisons are omitted or confused. The response is also 3 words below the 150-word minimum (147 words; 18 prompt words are excluded). Select the main trends accurately and give a clear overview before supporting it with comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with figures. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons move between age groups without a consistent sequence, and some statements contradict one another. For example, the overview says women were more active except in the youngest group, then says they had the highest figures in every age group. Linking words such as “But,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between ideas. Organise the details in age order or by gender, and use transitions to show clear comparisons rather than simply adding another point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “percentage,” “age groups,” “reduced,” and “rose,” and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range and control are limited, with several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that make comparisons less clear. Examples include “highest in physical activity,” “women grow,” and “men lowest in physical activity.” “Futhermore” is also misspelled, and “stable activity” does not express the intended trend naturally. Aim for precise reporting language and accurate collocations, such as describing a figure as rising, falling, peaking, or remaining broadly unchanged. Check spelling and word forms, and avoid repeating “percentage” when a clearer reference such as “the figure” is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “except” and a comparison introduced by “whereas.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “women wer more active” has a misspelled verb, while “there were higher number of men” is missing an article and has an unclear comparison. Phrases such as “15 to 24 aged men” and “in 35 to 44 aged” show problems with age-group sentence patterns. There are also agreement and sentence-construction issues in “the percentage of men and women were stable activity.” Practise complete, accurate comparison sentences, checking articles, subject–verb agreement, and how age ranges are expressed.
