Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart compares the men and women of different age groups on the basis of their physical activity in 2010.
Overall, the older men and women remained same physically active as compared with young generation. However, the younger men were more active than women. The women tends to be more active later.
To begin with, the younger age group 15 to 24 the men were more active than women that is 52.8% men and 47.7% women although, the women after this age remained more active than men.
The declined in physical activites of men starts from 25 to 34 at 42.2% while women were 48.9 and then from 35 to 44 men still gradually decreased at 39.5% while women sharply rose at 52.5%.
However, later some rise was seen in men from 45 to 54 at 43.1% but still less than women.
Furthermore, the men from 55 to 64 and 65 over showed almost similar data while, the women in 55 to 64 were more active at 53% and over 65 were at 47.1%. It is clear that women tends to be more active later in life and the men at young age are more active.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main contrast accurately: men lead in the youngest group, while women are more active in every subsequent age group. The figures you give for the key turning points, including men’s low of 39.5% at 35–44 and women’s rise to 53.3% at 45–54, match the chart. Your overview also recognises the later increase in men’s activity. However, the claim that older men and women “remained same physically active” is unclear and does not capture the differing patterns: women peak in middle age, while men recover after their low point. Some comparisons, especially for the two oldest groups, are only briefly described. A more precise overview and fuller comparison of the overall trends would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable progression from an introduction and overview to details about the age groups, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Furthermore” help signal movement between points. The reader can follow the broad comparison between the sexes. At times, though, the sequence feels like a list of age groups rather than a clearly grouped account of trends. For example, the discussion could first describe the male pattern from its initial high to its low and recovery, then contrast this with the female pattern. Some transitions are awkward or repetitive, and the final sentence repeats the overview rather than adding a concise concluding comparison. More deliberate grouping and clearer links between related figures would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “age group,” “physically active,” “declined,” “rose,” and “more active,” so the main comparisons are generally understandable. There is some attempt to describe change, but the range is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “remained same physically active,” “the declined in physical activites,” and “some rise was seen.” Repetition of “active” and “more active” also makes the account less flexible. Aim to use accurate trend language and natural collocations, for example “activity levels fell,” “increased steadily,” or “women recorded higher participation.” Check spelling and word forms, including “activities,” and choose expressions that describe the data directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “although,” “while,” and “however,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For instance, “The women tends” should use a plural verb, while “the older men and women remained same” needs an article and a more complete structure. The sentence beginning “To begin with, the younger age group 15 to 24…” lacks a clear grammatical frame, and punctuation around “although” and “while” is sometimes faulty. These issues do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Practise building complete comparison sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and clause punctuation.
