Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and provide an overview, noting that women were more active in most age groups and that men’s highest figure was among 15–24-year-olds. However, the overview is not fully accurate: women’s rate was higher in every group except the youngest, so “throughout all age groups” should be replaced with “in all age groups except 15–24.” You also say women peaked at 45–54, which is correct. The response reports only the youngest group’s figures and stops before describing the remaining data, leaving the main trends and comparisons largely unreported. It is also substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, cover the contrasting trends across the age groups and include key figures for both sexes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and the start of a detail paragraph. “Overall” signals the summary, while “Looking at men” indicates a move to specific data. These features give the reader some orientation. However, the response ends abruptly after one comparison, so there is no progression through the other age groups or a complete account of the chart. The overview and detail paragraph are not developed into a coherent report, and the comparison in the final sentence is awkwardly connected. Organise the body into clear comparisons—for example, the youngest group, the middle-age groups, and the oldest groups—and use linking phrases to show how the figures change.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age groups,” “proportion,” and “peak,” which helps communicate the topic and one key feature. However, the range is limited, and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce accuracy: “ans,” “excrise,” “more physical active,” and “doing regular physical activity with six different age groups.” The phrase “comparing of” is also not a natural way to introduce the figures. Use precise reporting language such as “the proportion of men who exercised regularly” and “compared with 47.7% of women.” A broader set of accurate terms for describing rises, falls, and differences would help you report the full range of chart information more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses simple sentence forms and attempts an overview with a contrast, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “The bar chart illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “female were” and “men ans women” show problems with agreement and sentence accuracy. In “age of 15 to 24 are at 52.8%,” the age-group phrase and verb construction are faulty; “men aged 15 to 24 recorded 52.8%” would be clearer. The final sentence also lacks appropriate punctuation and has an incomplete comparison structure. Most sentences are understandable, but the limited range and recurring errors make the report less clear. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete comparative sentences.
