Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant features, including the male peak at ages 15–24 (52.8%) and the male low at 35–44 (39.5%). However, the response covers only part of the chart: it stops while describing the rise in male activity and gives no account of the later male figures or most female figures. The overview also misidentifies the female peak: it is 45–54 at 53.3%, but the lowest female rate is among 15–24-year-olds (47.7%), not a clearly explained comparison across the chart. The response is 118 words, below the required 150. To improve, complete the summary, report the main female pattern, and compare the sexes across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview and a paragraph beginning “Firstly,” so the reader can recognise the intended structure. However, the progression is incomplete: the final paragraph ends after “43.1% men,” leaving the account unfinished and preventing a clear overall sequence through the data. Linking is limited, and “but” does not clearly express the relationship between the figures that follow. The overview repeats the same age-group information without setting up a complete comparison. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the detailed comparisons, then guide the reader through the male and female trends with clear links such as “by contrast” and “thereafter.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “highest,” and “lowest,” and the figures help make the intended meaning partly clear. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make the description harder to follow, such as “Astralia,” “sudennly,” “drecreased,” and “whoes.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “doing more exercise regular” and “rising up.” Aim for accurate, conventional chart language and vary the terms used to describe proportions and trends. For example, “the proportion of men who exercised” and “the figure then rose” would be clearer and more appropriate than the current phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and a longer sentence describing a change, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “The bar charts illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “The age 15 to 24 52.8% male do highest physical activity” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The overview also contains incomplete or awkward constructions, such as “The lowest men and women do regular exercise age group is…”. Use complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, plurals and verb forms. A model pattern is: “The proportion of men exercising fell from 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds to 39.5% among those aged 35–44.”
