Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include an overview, noting that women’s activity rises before falling and that men’s figures fluctuate. You also report several relevant values. However, the overview is imprecise: women’s rate does not rise throughout the age groups, since it starts at 47.7% and rises to a peak of 53.3% before declining. Some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear, including “from age 15 to 54” and the claim that the male increase was “twice as high” as an earlier decrease. The response is also five words below the required minimum. To address the task more fully, state the main contrast clearly—men lead only in the youngest group, while women lead in every other group—and describe the male low point and subsequent recovery accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing women’s and men’s figures. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the paragraphs is weakened by unclear or inaccurate links, such as “from age 15 to 54 to around 47% to 53%,” and the final clause about the male increase is difficult to follow. Connectors such as “However,” “In addition,” and “Subsequently” are used, but some do not establish a clear relationship between the ideas. Organise each gender’s figures in a precise chronological sequence, and use comparisons to link the series—for example, noting where women overtake men—rather than relying mainly on repeated transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increased,” “dropped,” and “fluctuated,” so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts at stronger descriptive language, such as “drastic fall” and “dramatically,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context. “Physical activities” is repeatedly used where “physical activity rates” or “participation” would be more precise, and “twice as high” does not clearly describe the comparison intended. Spelling errors such as “Subsequentely” and “drammatical,” along with the awkward phrase “percentage 40%,” reduce control. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and use a small range of precise verbs to describe rises, falls, peaks, and comparisons.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “However” and a time clause beginning “from age 24 to 44.” The basic meaning is often recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation frequently make parts difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall, the percentage of womendoing…” has missing spaces, while “from age 15 to 54 to around 47% to 53%” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the figures. The final sentence combines several ideas without a complete, clear structure. There are also problems with agreement and forms, as in “the percentage of men … fluctuated throughout the year,” which misuses the time reference. Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check punctuation and spacing.
