Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response selects the main comparisons accurately and gives a clear overview: women had higher participation in every age group except 15–24, and the highest female figure was among 45–54-year-olds. The reported percentages match the chart, including the near-equal figures for the oldest group. You also support the overview with relevant details across the age bands rather than listing only isolated values. To make the summary more fully developed, describe the overall pattern more explicitly: male participation fell from the youngest group to 35–44 before rising, while female participation generally increased to middle age and then declined. The overview’s final comparison is also incomplete: “while men aged 15 to 24” needs the corresponding highest figure or a complete clause.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to age-specific details. The progression through the age groups is easy to follow, and comparisons such as “compared with 43.1% and 45.1% for men” efficiently connect the two series. This shows a coherent arrangement, but cohesion is not consistently smooth. “Whereas the figure for men dropped to 42.2%” is separated as a fragment, and the transitions “However” and “Whereas” do not always create a well-integrated relationship between sentences. Punctuation and spacing around these transitions also interrupt the flow. Use complete, connected sentences and vary linking devices more naturally to make the progression feel less segmented.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of task-appropriate vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “participation,” and “recorded,” and the meaning remains clear throughout. There is some useful variation in how you describe the data, rather than repeating one term for every figure. However, a few choices are imprecise or awkward: “doing regular physical activity” is less natural than “engaging in regular physical activity,” and “men recorded only 39.5%” is not the clearest way to describe a participation rate. “Young men” is also less precise than “men aged 15 to 24.” Aim for natural collocations and consistent phrasing when describing percentages; this would add flexibility and precision to the vocabulary already present.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex structures, including comparisons with “while” and “compared with,” and most of the data remains understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are noticeable. “52.8% of young men … are participated” uses an incorrect passive form; write “participated” or “were physically active.” The overview sentence ending “while men aged 15 to 24” is incomplete, and “Whereas the figure for men dropped to 42.2%” is also a fragment. There are further issues with agreement in “women are more active than man” and with punctuation spacing and capitalization. Practise complete clauses and accurate verb patterns, while retaining the comparative structures you already attempt.
