Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant comparisons, such as men leading in the youngest group and women having higher participation in several middle-age groups. However, the overview is unclear and contains inaccurate claims: men did not have the highest figure overall, since women reached 53.3% among those aged 45–54, and the statement that this group had the highest daily exercise is not supported because the chart reports regular activity. Some figures are assigned to the wrong age groups: 52.5% belongs to women aged 35–44, not 25–34, while women aged 25–34 recorded 48.9%. The final comparison of the oldest group is relevant but vague. Select the main trends accurately and report the key figures consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs containing comparisons. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast” and “Moreover” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is uneven: the overview makes broad claims that are not then clearly supported, and the body moves between age groups without a consistent sequence. The final sentence about people aged 65 and over is isolated, while several comparisons are crowded into one paragraph. Some linking phrases, including “To commence,” sound mechanical, and the relationship between ideas in the long middle sentence is difficult to follow. Organise the body by age group or by male/female trends, and use clear references and transitions to connect each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage” and “age group,” and make an effort to vary expressions for participation. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “daily physical activity” and “percentage of daily exercise,” when the chart describes regular activity. Phrases such as “men including in” and “ten time lower” make parts of the message difficult to interpret. Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “pysical,” “physi acl” and “prsented.” Aim for precise, repeatable chart language rather than forcing synonyms: for example, use “the proportion who exercised regularly” and “was higher than.” Proofread spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparative sentences, and the opening overview uses a subordinate clause. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. For example, “men including in 15-24 age group accounted for” has an unclear grammatical construction, while “women' proportion stood at 47.7 percentage” has problems with possessive form and sentence structure. The sentence beginning “In contrast, other 3 age groups…” also lacks clear grammatical relationships between its clauses. Articles, plurals and punctuation are inconsistently controlled, and some sentences are fragments, such as “agae group of 65 aqnd over…” without a clear opening capitalisation. Practise accurate comparative sentence patterns, such as “Women’s figure was higher than men’s in…”.
