Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You report the chart’s figures accurately and cover both sexes across all six age groups. The overview identifies the main contrast: women exceed men in every group except ages 15–24, and it correctly notes the male low at 35–44 and female peak at 45–54. This gives the response a clear summary of the key features. To make the overview more complete, describe the broader patterns: men’s activity falls from the youngest group to 35–44 before rising, while women’s rate generally rises to middle age and then declines. Some comparisons are presented as separate figures rather than interpreted, so explaining the size or direction of the differences would strengthen the analysis further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for men and women. This makes the information easy to locate, and phrases such as “In contrast” help signal comparisons. However, the repeated “On one hand” and “On the other hand” structure, along with frequent “Also,” “Lastly,” and “In contrast,” makes the linking somewhat mechanical. The male and female paragraphs mostly list values rather than building a progression around trends or direct comparisons between the sexes. Grouping the figures by age pattern, and using clearer links such as “whereas” or “by comparison,” would create smoother progression and more integrated comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “highest,” and “lowest,” and the meaning is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “age group” and “in contrast.” Some word choices and collocations are awkward, such as “did regular physical activities” and “male in 15 to 24 age group are the highest.” More precise reporting language would make the description sound more natural and concise. For example, use “engaged in regular physical activity” and “the male figure peaked among 15–24-year-olds.” Varying terms such as “rate,” “proportion,” and “figure” would also help avoid repetition while maintaining accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “while” and “although,” but most sentences follow a simple, repetitive pattern. There are recurring errors in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For instance, “Overall female are more active” needs an article and a plural noun (“Overall, females…”), while “male in 15 to 24 age group are the highest is 52.8%” combines incompatible structures. “Female are highest” also has an agreement problem. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the figures, but they reduce accuracy and control. Practise complete comparative sentences, such as “The proportion of men was highest among 15–24-year-olds, at 52.8%,” and check articles and subject–verb agreement.
