Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify relevant comparisons, including the male peak of 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds and the female figure of 53.3% for ages 45–54. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: ages 45–54 are not the highest group for both sexes, and the lowest male rate is 39.5% among 35–44-year-olds, not the 65-and-over group. The claim that the 65+ figures are the lowest is therefore misleading. Some comparisons are also misreported: for ages 35–44, men are at 39.5%, not 43.1%. The final statement that women have the highest percentages is too broad, since men lead in the youngest group. Select the main trends accurately and support them with correctly matched figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview and paragraphs of comparisons, and phrases such as “Overall” and “According to the bar chart” signal the intended structure. However, progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons are presented as “second” and “third” rankings without a clear ranking system, and the final paragraph repeats the general claim that women have higher percentages. Connections between ideas are often unclear, as in “At the last b25 to 34 year ages.” Paragraphing helps separate points, but the information within paragraphs needs a more logical sequence. Group the data by the main pattern—for example, men’s figures and women’s figures—and use clear comparison links such as “whereas” and “by contrast.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age groups,” “physical activity,” and “whereas,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and many spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “illustrat,” “renking,” “masive,” and “involes.” Several phrases are not natural for describing chart data, including “the second renk of the men at the highest” and “the lowest nem and women.” Aim for precise, conventional expressions such as “the highest proportion,” “the lowest rate,” and “participated in regular physical activity.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations will make your comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form longer sentences and use comparison structures, including “whereas” and “by contrast,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “the Australian men and women has” and “women had in the highest.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak: the sentence beginning “According to the bar chart” runs several comparisons together, while “At the last b25 to 34 year ages the women moreover the men” is incomplete. These problems sometimes make the relationships between figures hard to follow. Practise writing complete, controlled sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles and punctuation. Shorter accurate comparisons would be more effective than faulty extended sentences.
