Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, such as 52.8% for men aged 15–24 and 53.3% for women aged 45–54. However, the overview is inaccurate: men did not have the highest figures across the period, nor women the lowest; women exceeded men in four of the six age groups. The response also misses the main pattern that men’s rate fell to a low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 before rising, while women’s rate peaked around 45–64. Some comparisons are misreported: the 45–64 range combines two groups, and the claim that men and women were the same at 65 and over is incorrect (46.7% versus 47.1%). Select and summarise the key trends more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an attempted overview, and two body paragraphs, and it uses basic signposts such as “Overall,” “On the one hand,” and “On the other hand.” These provide some organisation, but the progression is difficult to follow because the body paragraphs do not present the age groups in a consistent sequence and the division between them is unclear. The contrastive phrases also do not always express a meaningful contrast, while “moreover” introduces a final comparison without clarifying its relationship to the previous point. Group the data in a clear order, for example by describing the younger groups first and then the older groups, and use linking words only where they accurately show comparison or addition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt chart-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “accounted,” “decreased,” and “increased,” so the response shows some awareness of the language needed for describing data. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “male doing regular physical activity accounted the hightest” and “female considerd for the hightest percentage.” Spelling errors are also frequent, including “Australin,” “reugular,” “wh erase,” and “physcial.” Use precise, repeatable expressions such as “the proportion of men,” “stood at,” “was higher than,” and “reached a peak.” Check spelling and avoid using “rose” or “fell” unless the figure is being compared with an earlier age group.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and comparisons, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors are frequent enough to make several statements difficult to interpret. For example, “while per percentage show in the proportion” is not a complete, clear clause, and “male doing regular physical activity accounted the hightest” lacks a correctly formed verb pattern and article. There are also problems with tense, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “age of 25 to 34 male rose” and the lowercase starts after full stops in “while” and “howover.” Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “while” or “whereas.” Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and use consistent punctuation and capitalisation.
