Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include figures from all six age groups, so the response is relevant and contains some accurate reporting. However, the main features are not clearly summarised: the overview says there are “six main features” rather than identifying the overall pattern. The account also misreports the extremes, claiming the female peak is 52.8 and the lowest point is 47.1; in fact, women peak at 53.3 in the 45–54 group and reach their lowest rate, 47.1, among those aged 65 and over. The statement that the male rate “is decreased” compared with the first group is also unclear. To improve, give a concise overview of the contrasting trends and check comparisons against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, followed by groups of age comparisons. Phrases such as “In contrast” and “The next group” show an attempt to connect information. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview does not actually summarise the data, and the body moves between age groups without a consistent comparison pattern. The final sentences repeat and contradict information about the female peak and lowest values. Paragraphing is present, but links such as “each group has” do not make the relationship between the figures clear. Organise the body by comparing male and female rates across the age groups, and use a separate, accurate overview to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age groups,” “peak point,” and “lowest point,” and the reader can generally recognise that you are comparing activity rates. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “the era of 15 and 24” is not an appropriate way to describe an age band, while “decreased than compete” does not express a clear comparison. There are also spelling and word-form errors such as “percantage” and “womanpeak.” Build a small set of precise terms for describing age bands, rates, increases, decreases, and highest or lowest values, and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, and some figures are presented in understandable sentence forms. However, the range of structures is limited, and frequent errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation can make relationships between ideas unclear. For instance, “the bar chart gave me a six main features” has an incorrect article and verb construction, while “the male percentage are decreased” has faulty agreement and verb form. Several sentences run together without full stops, as in the comparison of the 45–54 and 55–64 groups. Practise writing complete, controlled sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use punctuation to separate each comparison.
