Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, especially the male decline from 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds to 39.5% among 35–44-year-olds, followed by a rise. However, the overview is unclear and contains important misreadings: 53% is the female figure for ages 55–64, not a male figure, and 42.2% belongs to men aged 25–34, not women. The female rate rises from 47.7% to a peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54, but the response gives an incorrect age group for 48.9% and omits the 35–44 female figure. To strengthen the report, state the main contrast accurately—men are more active only in the youngest group, while women lead in the other groups—and select key highs, lows and trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for male and female figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Secondly” signal the two series. However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements in the overview, and some links are mechanical or incorrectly used, such as “Although” before a statement that is not a contrast. Several sentences begin with “And” or “While” without forming clear connections, and references such as “the end of the period” are imprecise for age groups. Organise each paragraph around a clear trend, use accurate comparisons between the sexes, and connect sentences with simpler, more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “decrease,” “decline,” and “increase,” and the reader can generally identify that the figures describe activity rates. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the report difficult to follow: “regular activity is counted,” “second number,” and “grew up” are not natural ways to describe chart data. Spelling errors such as “illustrats,” “femal,” and “Morever” also reduce accuracy. Use a consistent set of precise reporting expressions, for example “the proportion of men,” “the rate fell to,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling before submitting. Avoid repeating “regular activity” when “participation rate” or “figure” is clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “However” and “Although,” but control is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “the femal regualr activity is counted is 53.3% the age between 44 to 54 years” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “they are increase to 48.9%” has an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “Australian male there physical activity is 52.8%.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures and age groups hard to understand. Build accuracy first with clear subject–verb sentences, then add controlled comparisons using patterns such as “The rate for women rose from X to Y, whereas the male figure fell.”
