Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You report figures for all six age groups, and most are accurate: for example, you give 39.5% for men and 52.5% for women aged 35–44. However, the response mainly lists data rather than summarising the main features. It needs a clear overview, such as noting that men were more active only in the youngest group, while women led in every other group; women’s rate peaked at 53.3% among 45–54-year-olds, whereas men’s lowest was 39.5% at 35–44. The final male figure is rounded to 46.7%, which matches the chart. The response is 19 words below the 150-word minimum, further limiting its development. Add an overview and explain the key contrasts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The age groups are presented in chart order, so readers can follow the sequence, and phrases such as “From 35 to 44” and “At the next step” attempt to connect the information. However, the response is one continuous paragraph and has no distinct overview or grouping of the main comparisons. Several transitions are awkward or unclear, particularly “At the next step of age which is 43.1 percent male,” where the age group and figure are not smoothly connected. Repeatedly beginning with an age group also makes the report feel like a list rather than a developed summary. Use a short overview followed by a paragraph comparing the age groups, and make each transition clearly link the age range to both figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “regular physical activity,” and “exercise,” and the reader can generally identify the subject of each comparison. However, the range is limited and some expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “15 to 24 ages,” “female persons,” and “Aged person whos age is 65 or over.” “Did exercise daily” also changes the chart’s meaning: it reports regular activity, not necessarily daily exercise. Spelling and number formatting are inconsistent, as in “perecent” and “46,7.” Use concise, standard chart language such as “men aged 15–24” and “the proportion of women,” and check spelling and decimal notation carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to report comparisons using several sentence openings, and most figures can be understood despite the errors. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or awkward, and the range is limited. For example, “15 to 24 ages men and women who did regular activity men 52.8 perecent and womens 47.7 percent” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the of men is 45.1” contains an incomplete phrase. The sentence about the 45–54 group also does not clearly connect the percentages to the people being compared. Punctuation is unreliable, including the extra full stop after the first data sentence. Practise complete comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Among people aged 15–24, 52.8% of men were active, compared with 47.7% of women.”
