Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart’s subject and include one accurate comparison: men aged 15–24 recorded 52.8%, compared with 47.7% of women. However, the response is far too incomplete to summarise the main features: it gives no account of most age groups and omits the key overall pattern that women were more active in every group except the youngest. The overview is also inaccurate in saying women were higher only at ages 45–54; they exceeded men in all groups from 25–34 onwards. The response contains 58 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum; 16 words copied from the prompt were excluded from that count. Report the main trends and several relevant comparisons before adding detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic, recognisable order: an introduction, an overview, and then a specific comparison. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the development stops after one data point, so there is no progression through the age groups or comparison of the broader trends. The overview’s two statements are also joined awkwardly: “While male accounted…” is followed by “however,” creating an unclear contrast. Use separate, clearly linked sentences, then organise the body by comparing the youngest group with the remaining groups and describing how the figures change with age.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “age groups,” and “regular physical activity,” and the figures are expressed in a suitable form. However, the range is very limited because the response contains little description of change or comparison. Several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “female are more interested” describes personal interest rather than the chart’s measured participation, and “accounted the highest percentage” is not a natural collocation. There are also spelling errors in “intrested” and “higest.” Use precise reporting language such as “the proportion who exercised,” “was higher than,” and “peaked at,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including an overview beginning with “Overall” and a comparison using “while.” The meaning of the numerical comparison is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent: “The bar chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “female are” and “male are” also use incorrect agreement and number. The clause “While male accounted the higest percentage…” is incomplete or poorly connected to the following clause, and “compare to female” does not form a correct comparison structure. Build accurate simple sentences first, for example, “Men recorded 52.8%, compared with 47.7% for women,” then add more complex structures once their clauses are complete.
