Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and attempt to describe both sexes, including several relevant figures. However, the overview is inaccurate: women were not more active in every age group, since men led among 15–24-year-olds (52.8% versus 47.7%). The main pattern is that male participation fell to a low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 before rising, while female participation peaked around 45–54 and was higher in the other age groups. Some details are also misreported: the female figure for ages 35–44 is 52.5%, not 53.5%, and 47.1% is not the lowest female figure. Focus the overview on these comparisons and report the values accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an overview to male figures and then female figures, so the reader can recognise the two main groups being discussed. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, “While 25 to 35 years men are decreased in a medium range with 42.2to 39.5” combines two age groups and does not clearly explain the change. Connectors such as “While,” “After,” and “on other side” are used awkwardly or without a complete, well-linked sentence. Organise the details in clear age-group ranges, use a separate overview paragraph, and link comparisons directly—for instance, explain where women’s rates exceed men’s and where the reverse is true.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “highest,” “decline,” and “active,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “more into physical activity,” “active in physical activity,” and “highest number of proportion.” Some word choices also obscure the intended meaning: “made up” is not a natural way to report a percentage, and “medium range” is vague. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data, such as “accounted for,” “participation rate,” “fell,” and “rose.” Check word forms and spelling as well, including “graphs” when referring to this single chart.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, but sentence forms are often faulty, and errors can make comparisons difficult to follow. Examples include “women are in more into physical activity than man all different age group,” “male whom are made up with 52.8,” and “After a slightly decline in a mid age it rose a minimal.” These show problems with agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. Several fragments beginning with “While” also lack a complete main clause. Use straightforward sentences with a clear subject and verb, then practise accurate comparative forms—for example, “The male rate fell from 52.8% to 39.5%, then rose gradually.” Review punctuation and spacing so that figures and clauses are easy to read.
