Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, including 52.8% for men and 47.7% for women aged 15–24, and the female peak around 53% in middle age. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “females have the almost highest percentage … in all age groups” overlooks that men lead among 15–24-year-olds, and the 55–64 figures are not the same (53.0% for women versus 45.1% for men). Some comparisons are also vague, such as “have also high in percentage,” and the final age-group comparison does not clearly state both values. To strengthen the report, give a precise overview of the contrasting trends and select the main highs, lows, and gender differences accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an attempted overview, and comparisons across age groups. This gives the reader some sense of how the chart is being described. However, progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons are not grouped around clear trends, and several linking expressions are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “conversely” does not clearly connect the first comparison to the overview, while “On the other hand” and “So on” do not establish precise relationships between the data. The final paragraph also combines several age groups without clear transitions. Organise the body into a clear comparison of the youngest group and the remaining groups, and use linking phrases only when their logical relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “decreasing,” and “increasing,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate phrases make comparisons imprecise, such as “high in percentage,” “have only,” and “almost same percentage.” There are also word-form and spelling problems, including “male and female” where plural forms are needed and “activiy.” Choose standard expressions for reporting data, such as “the proportion of women,” “stood at,” and “was higher than.” More precise vocabulary would help distinguish a peak, a decline, and a small difference rather than relying repeatedly on “high” and “same.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic past-tense reporting, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors occur frequently. Agreement and sentence construction are problematic in examples such as “There are only one age group” and “males are high in percentage than females.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “in age group 25 to 34 female have percentage.” The sentence beginning “The age group 45 to 54, have also high…” is not formed as a complete, accurate comparison. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to understand. Practise accurate simple comparison structures first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas,” checking subject–verb agreement and articles.
