Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You report figures for all six age groups and correctly identify several key values, including 52.8% for men aged 15–24 and 53.3% for women aged 45–54. However, the overview that “the maximum age group was female and minimum was male” is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: men were higher only in the youngest group, while women led in the other five. The response mainly lists figures rather than selecting and comparing the most important trends, and it does not clearly note that men’s activity fell to a low at ages 35–44 before rising. It is also 142 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 17 words copied from the task prompt are excluded from that count. Develop a precise overview and explain the overall contrasts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence: it begins with an introduction and overview, then moves through the age groups in order. This makes the data’s progression possible to follow. However, the overview is too vague to guide the reader, and the body is largely one long paragraph, so the comparisons are crowded together. Linking expressions such as “To commence with,” “furthermore,” “next,” and “moving towards” show an attempt to connect ideas, but they are repetitive or awkward and do not always clarify the relationship between figures. For example, “but in female percentage was increased” is repeated without a clear comparison structure. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped comparisons, and connect related age groups more directly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant terms, including “age group,” “percentage,” and “physical activity,” and the figures are generally identifiable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “clear delineation,” “maximum age group,” and “female percentage was increased.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to understand. Repeated use of “only,” “low,” and “increased” also limits precision; the chart describes proportions that are higher or lower, rather than percentages that increase within a group. Aim for accurate reporting verbs and comparison language, such as “stood at,” “was higher than,” and “peaked at.” Check spelling and spacing in forms such as “australian” and “femalepercent,” and use consistent labels for men and women.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine comparisons using “but” and “while,” and it includes some longer sentences. However, these structures are often faulty, as in “age group 15 to 24 male percentage was 52.8% but in female age group percentage was decreased.” The sentence lacks clear grammatical framing, and “was decreased” is not an appropriate form for reporting the chart. Articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation are also inconsistently controlled: “Overall,it” and “47.7%.furthermore” run words or sentences together, while several comparisons continue without full stops. These errors can make relationships between the data harder to follow. Practise a reliable pattern such as “Among 15–24-year-olds, the figure for men was 52.8%, compared with 47.7% for women,” then vary it with accurate simple and complex sentences.
