Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a clear overall comparison: men lead only in the youngest group, while women are higher in the other age groups. Most figures are reported accurately, including the male low of 39.5% at ages 35–44 and the female peak of 53.3% at ages 45–54. However, the overview that exercise was popular among “almost all” women and men were “less interested” is broad and does not clearly summarise the main pattern of women’s higher participation across most groups. The final group is described as nearly equal, but the overview could also highlight that the gap narrows there. Use neutral chart language and make the key trends explicit rather than inferring interest.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to age-group details, and the comparisons are generally easy to follow. Grouping the middle age ranges together is an efficient way to report the data. However, the long third paragraph contains several comparisons and figures in one sentence, making the progression harder to track. Connectors such as “Meanwhile,” “while,” and “However” help, but some are used mechanically or do not mark a strong contrast; “However” introduces the final age group without explaining the shift. Separate the male and female trends into clearer sentence units and use linking phrases that show the precise relationship between the figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a chart, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “increased,” “dropped,” and “recover.” These choices allow the reader to understand the main comparisons, and you attempt more varied expressions than simple repetition of “went up” and “went down.” Some wording is imprecise or unnatural, however: “exercise tendency” and “physical exercise were popular” do not describe participation rates accurately, while “male dominated” sounds overly forceful for a numerical comparison. There are also spelling errors, including “acitivity,” “pecent,” “respectievely,” and “remeaning.” Choose standard chart collocations such as “participation rate” and proofread carefully to improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “physical exercise were” should use a singular verb, and “male were” needs a plural noun and matching verb. In “accounted 52.8,” the verb pattern requires “accounted for,” while “female represented only 47.7 percent” would be clearer with an article or plural subject. The long sentence beginning “Meanwhile, regarding 35 to 44…” also has an awkward structure that obscures the relationships between clauses. Aim for shorter, complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement and verb patterns.
