Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies the chart topic and gives one relevant comparison: women were more active than men in most age groups, with the youngest group as the exception. It also reports the two figures for ages 15–24 accurately. However, the summary is only minimal: it does not describe the remaining age groups, the overall trends, or other key comparisons, and the overview’s claim that women were more health-conscious is broader than the chart supports. The response contains 69 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum. To improve, provide a concise overview of the main patterns and support it with selected figures across the age range.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic structure: an opening sentence, an overview, and a specific detail about the youngest group. The ideas are relevant and the reader can follow the intended comparison. However, the response ends before developing a clear progression through the chart, and the final detail is not integrated into a fuller account of the age groups. The overview and example are separated by large blank spaces, while the final sentence lacks clear punctuation between the male and female figures. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs, using clear links such as “whereas” and “by contrast” to guide comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “age category,” “percentage,” and “regular physical activity,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited, and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “interest about daily workout” does not describe the chart precisely, while “health conscious” interprets the figures rather than reporting activity levels. “Boy” and “girl” are also too informal for describing adult age groups. Use precise terms such as “men,” “women,” “participation rate,” and “engaged in regular physical activity.” A wider set of comparison language, including “higher than,” “peaked at,” and “declined,” would help report the data more accurately and flexibly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few sentence forms, including the overview clause “it can clearly be seen that…,” and the main meaning is mostly recoverable. However, control is uneven. In “Australian male and females,” the noun forms do not agree; “womens of all age group” has errors in plural formation and agreement; and “52.8% boy participated” is missing an appropriate plural noun and article or quantifier. The final sentence also joins two pieces of information without clear punctuation, making the comparison harder to read. Practise accurate plural forms and subject–verb agreement, and use complete, clearly punctuated sentences when comparing the male and female figures.
