Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a broad overview that women were generally more active, and you report several relevant figures accurately: men peaked at 52.8% among 15–24-year-olds, their low was 39.5% at 35–44, and the oldest group was close for both sexes. However, the account is incomplete: it does not describe the middle-age trends in a clear, usable way, and it omits the important comparison that women exceeded men in every group except the youngest. The overview is therefore only partly supported, and some details are difficult to interpret. The response is also 18 words below the required minimum of 150, limiting the coverage possible. Develop the comparisons across all age groups and include a clear summary of the main patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a short body section. Phrases such as “Overall” and “In addition” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, there is no clear progression through the age groups, and the body jumps from the youngest group to the middle-age low and then to the oldest group without explaining the intervening pattern. Some links are unclear, particularly “Corresponding to men women are on 47.7%” and “whereas women in this age group age of 35 to 44.” The final paragraph is also a single block despite containing several comparisons. Organise the data into a clearer sequence, use separate paragraphs for overview and details, and make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “age group,” “physical activity,” and “peak,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward: “maintained higher physical activity across their male counterparts,” “in there young age,” and “hit its lower point” are not natural ways to describe chart data. “Peek” is also the wrong word where “peak” is intended. Aim for precise reporting language such as “the proportion of men,” “was lowest,” and “women recorded a higher rate.” More accurate collocations and careful spelling would make the comparisons easier to understand and reduce the strain caused by the current phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and an overview beginning “Overall.” However, the range is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “women generally maintained higher physical activity across their male counterparts” has an unclear grammatical relationship, while “the activity of women are on the peek” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “Looking first for the data…” is also incomplete or awkwardly constructed, and “women in this age group age of 35 to 44” lacks a clear sentence structure. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
