Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 184 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, the discussion is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The arguments regarding financial stability and the share market are somewhat tangential and not clearly linked to the core debate about information sharing in research and business. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and relevant, specific examples to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate (e.g., 'As that result'). The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'finacial stable' instead of 'financially stable' and 'relive on' instead of 'rely on'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic with precision. To achieve a higher band, you should work on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to research and business, while also focusing on accurate word formation and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Few individual believe'), article usage, and sentence structure. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex constructions. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex sentences with accurate conjunctions and relative clauses.
