IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Write about the following topic: Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

In present times, a lot of advance information is availabe on multiple open source platforms. However, people's opinion differ in sharing all the information freely. Many people believe it's in the best interest of the people but some people disagree to this belief and have an opposite opinion to this. Morevover, In my opinion sharing information related to advance research's, businesses and information related to the academic's is very much needed and is definitely in the favour of the people. Though, there should be some caution practised while sharing these informations.

Primarily, the youth, the future scientists, entreprnuers' and professors need to have all the information related to current times. For example, the students and upcoming scientists need to have the knowledge of the previous, current and upcoming research advances in multiple areas, the upcoming ambitious entreprenuers' are required to know the current trends and new business ideas that are under trial and those which are ready for real world implementation and lastly, the teachers, the professors and the students inevitably needs the latest informations and latest research papers on education system and the present time students approach and mindset towards education.

However, these informations need an appropriate and reliable means to reach the targeted people. If some of these sensitive information comes in the hands of the evil group of people it can be disasterous. They can misuse this information and create propoganda against the people. It can also create a security threat if any technological information and national information is leaked. Furthermore, the second most important cauntion is that the information reaches the correct audience. for instance, if any technological advances information reaches to a non technical group it can create a caios if misunderstood. There is a threat that people can use open platforms to spread misinformation if the platforms are not regulated correctly.

In my opinion, there is a dire need to share latest data and information to the capable youth. Yet, I firmly beleive tht the knowledge should be passed through an appropriate channel. For instance, there should be proper curriculum for students to gain knowledge and implement it further in their area of interest and professions. Their should be proper portals for degree holders and verified people to access all the necessary data. To conclude, if proper steps are taken and the information is channelized in a suitable manner it can create a long lasting impact on the future generations.

While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by minor errors in punctuation and phrasing. For example, the use of 'Though' at the start of a sentence is informal and slightly awkward in this context. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the logical sequence of ideas is maintained throughout the response.

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'open source platforms', 'implementation', and 'misinformation'. However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'availabe', 'Morevover', 'entreprnuers', 'disasterous', 'propoganda', 'cauntion', 'caios', 'beleive', 'tht') and some incorrect word forms, such as the unnecessary use of apostrophes in 'research's', 'entreprnuers'', and 'academic's'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and ensuring that plural nouns are not incorrectly punctuated with apostrophes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people's opinion differ', 'students... needs') and the misuse of articles or plurals (e.g., 'these informations'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the distinction between countable and uncountable nouns, such as 'information' which should not be pluralized.
