Student answer (Band 7.0)
A thought of teenagers facing difficulties at house and school has become increasingly common. This is because change in lifestyles has taken mammoth dimensions. This essay will clearly state the issues of this trend and will give optimal solutions to mitigate this situation.
To commence with, the problems faced by the teenagers are identity crisis and subject selection. To expound, teenagers go through an immense hormonal change around puberty and consequently experience many emotional ups and downs. Since they are going through the phase of transition, they are neither considered children anymore nor adults yet. As a result, they develop an identity issue which puts them in a formidable situation. What is more, they have to face a crucial decision in their life to choose the subjects for higher studies.
While it is an important milestone for them, it is also stressful at the same time when parents and teachers do not agree with their choice of subjects. Therefore, it creates distress in their life on top of the ongoing identity issues.
To address the second question, some plausible solutions are counselling at schools and a supportive environment at home. To elaborate, the schools should make efforts to provide adequate counselling sessions for teenagers which help them to vent out their stress and get valuable guidance. Furthermore, parents should ensure a positive and encouraging environment at home, which makes teenagers comfortable enough to share their thoughts and discuss their problems with the family. To exemplify, in 2024, an experiment was conducted in Canada which showcased that 82% of grade 12 students benefited from in-school counselling sessions. Hence the above example vividly illustrates how the issue can be solved.
In conclusion, this essay has clearly discussed that struggles related to identity and academic decision-making are the reasons associated with teenagers hardships whereas it has also highlighted ardent steps such as professional personal and academic counselling and supportive environment are required to alleviate these problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on the sharing of information in scientific, business, and academic contexts. However, the essay discusses the difficulties faced by teenagers at home and school. Because the response fails to address the prompt entirely, it cannot be assessed on the development of the required arguments. While the essay is well-structured as a piece of writing, it does not fulfill the task requirements for an IELTS Academic Task 2 essay on the specified topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
Despite being off-topic, the essay demonstrates a clear logical progression. The writer uses paragraphing effectively, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', 'What is more', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to link ideas. The flow of information is logical, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is one of the strongest aspects of this response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and shows a good range. The writer uses phrases like 'mammoth dimensions', 'formidable situation', 'plausible solutions', and 'alleviate these problems' with reasonable accuracy. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, and the word choice is generally precise enough to convey meaning clearly. While the topic is incorrect, the lexical control displayed is sufficient for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'at house' (should be 'at home') and 'teenagers hardships' (missing possessive apostrophe). However, the majority of sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. The writer demonstrates a good command of complex sentence forms, which helps in maintaining the flow of the essay.
